During your stay in the Black Périgord (Dordogne), your lodging, near Sarlat and the Lot, will be in the heart of history and gastronomy.
All La Truffière self-catering cottages with the covered swimming-pool (only reserved to the residents) take their names from prestigious castles. Dordogne has 1001 castles and manors! Moreover, men began to live there during prehistory. That’s just show how Black Périgord offers 1st class accommodation!
The Dordogne river which is 3 min far from La Truffière by car is a privileged location for swimming, canoeing or sailing on a ‘gabarre’, specific boat from Dordogne. A ‘gabarre’ is also a hero from a French telefilm called ‘A river called Hope.’
 
Alongside its banks, former borders between France and England, many fortified castles were built. Black Périgord is completely sprinkled with castles. Here are some of them:

The Black Périgord welcomes plenty of treasures which will make your stay in your accommodation with the swimming-pool unforgettable:
| there are numerous of prehistoric caves such as the Lascaux caves, the Cussac caves, the Combarelles caves, ..., the Pataud shelters, the Laugerie Basse shelters, ..., and of course the world capital of prehistory city of "Les Eyzies" with its national prehistory museum.

Some gardens amongst the most beautiful ones in France where strolling is magical (for example, Marqueyssac gardens and gardens of the Eyrignac mansion).

It is difficult to draw a complete list of everything you will be able to discover during your stay in Dordogne, Périgord. For example, we have not mentioned:
- museums
- aquariums
- and other theme parks (historical ones or leisure ones as well as adventure courses in forests for the entire family)
- the 3 other Périgord (the White, Green and Purple ones)
- the Lot area, just a few kilometers far from your accommodation by car with worldwide well-known settings such as Rocamadour or the Padirac abyss.
On the contrary, we could not have ended not saying a word on what makes the Périgord reputation : its gastronomy and the so much sought-after truffle, the succulent foie gras and other stuff made from ducks and geese, the excellent Bergerac wines (to drink with moderation).
